Applied Driving are proud to support Brake, the Road Safety Charity for Road Safety Week 2022.
Our mission at Applied Driving is simple: making the roads safer for all road users by inspiring best practices for road safety. It should come as little surprise then that Road Safety Week is one of the most important annual events on our calendar!
Every year, the road safety charity Brake organises Road Safety Week, the biggest road safety campaign in the UK. The purpose of Road Safety Week is to raise awareness and inspire thousands of schools, organisations, and communities to get involved and share life-saving messages.
Across this week, it is more important than ever to share these important road safety messages, remember those affected by road death and injury, and raise funds to help Brake care for more road victims and campaign for safe roads for everyone.
This year’s theme is ‘Safe Roads for All’, emphasising that every life matters and every injury or death on our roads is preventable. According to Brake, it is estimated that every 16 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured on UK roads. Just last year, 1,608 people were recorded to have died and 26,701 were seriously injured.
We have long supported Brake and have been active participants in Road Safety Week, but believe that only together, we can make the roads safer.
What Applied Driving is doing for Road Safety Week
We are proud to support Road Safety Week again this year by promoting road safety initiatives online, with our partners, and in person. Our Director of Client Partnerships, Nigel Lawrence, is thrilled to be attending partners Silent Night on Wednesday 16th November to host a series of interactive and informative workshops on alcohol awareness. In addition to this, he will also be visiting Wickham Church of England Primary School at the end of the week as he explains:
“Road Safety Week at Applied Driving is a fantastic opportunity to support our valued clients and partners by promoting important road safety messages. For the first time, we are widening those messages into the local community with an in-person initiative with a local school. Educating the younger generation with tips to stay safe whilst using our roads, compliments this year’s theme of ‘Safe Roads for All’. I am excited to raise awareness on how we can all contribute to keeping safe on our roads”.
Applied Driving will be matching all funds raised this year from the school and will be awarding pupils with prizes for ‘best colouring’ and ‘best bright outfit’ on the day.
How can the fleet industry get involved with Road Safety Week?
Road safety is an important issue for the fleet industry because we are responsible for the safety of not only for our drivers, but all road users. So how could you take part to ensure that Road Safety Week is a success?
1. Promote safe driving practices within your organisation
During Road Safety Week, take some time to remind your drivers of the importance of safe driving. If you are a fleet manager or higher, lead the way by setting an example of promoting these safety initiatives, and getting all your drivers to get involved.
This may include a quick refresher session on best driving safety practices or sending a company-wide email with road safety tips. Brake has also created a great interactive and online e-learning module for drivers, encouraging them to check it out and have fun whilst learning!
2. Encourage employees to carpool or take public transport
By encouraging your employees to carpool or take public transit, you can help reduce traffic congestion and incidents during Road Safety Week (and beyond). Not to mention the benefits for the environment!
3. Participate in local events or create your own
Across the week you could hold your own event or activity that makes you MOVE, THINK, WATCH, TEACH, SAVE, or SUPPORT people affected by road crashes, all while imagining a FUTURE where no one is killed or injured on a road.
BRAKE has provided a free daily planner which can help you plan your activities.
Many towns and cities are also hosting events during the week, check to see if anything is happening near you and encourage your employees to participate!
How Applied Driving can keep your drivers safe
We are committed to helping organisations meet their legal obligations when it comes to road safety, but most importantly know how to keep your drivers safe. We do this by offering core services such as licence checking, driver risk assessments, and online training from our very own web application ‘Riskmapp’.
Our innovative technology including our latest product “Companion+”, analyses driver performance and mitigates potential risk autonomously. Available as a smartphone app, or via telematics integration, we offer a variety of products and services designed to help organisations improve their road safety practices.

Spread the word about Road Safety Week!
We are proud to be supporting BRAKE again this year and hope that we have given you a couple of ideas on how to get involved, how to promote safety initiatives, and how to raise funds for a great cause.
Do your part by taking 1 minute to share this article on your social media using the hashtag #RoadSafetyWeek, and tagging @BrakeCharity. By doing so you will be spreading awareness and sharing important road safety messages. We also encourage you to share this with your friends, family, and colleagues to keep passing it on.
If you have children, take some time this week to teach them the importance of road safety, and how they can stay safe when out on the roads. Consider volunteering at local events or initiatives related to road safety in your community. We encourage you to do whatever you can to help spread the word about road safety!
Every little bit helps.
